The Post Graduate Department of Political Science of Khallikote Unitary University (erstwhile Khallikote Autonomous College) had come into existence in 1944 with affiliation to Utkal University for providing teaching facilities in Political Science at Under Graduate level (B.A.). With the establishment of Berhampur University, affiliation shifted to it in the year 1966. The year 1981 was an important mile stone in the history of this department, when Post Graduate programme (M.A) had been initiated under the Berhampur University. At present 32 seats are available under the P.G course. Through Common P.G Entrance Test (CPET), deserving students from various parts of Odisha get the chance to pursue their career in this institute. In 2013, M.Phil course had been started with seat strength 08.

In the last eight years, 07 students from this department have been able to achieve success in UGC NET Examination. Some meritorious students were able to get the SSB Lectureship Job under the Government of Odisha. Beside this, it is hoped that every passed out student from this department must be leading a meaningful life according to their choices and this tradition would continue in the times to come.
